What does a School Counselor Do?

SCHOOL WIDE GUIDANCE:
Create a safe and positive learning experience. 
Promote positive attitudes among students towards self, family, peers and community.
Assist students in learning how school performance relates to future opportunities.
Work with students, parents and school staff to identify learning needs and to design interventions to enhance student success.


CLASSROOM GUIDANCE LESSONS:
Develop and deliver classroom guidance lessons that teach students the skills to become productive members of the community, promote mindfulness, and responsibility. We will discuss topics such as conflict resolution, kindness, career readiness, coping skills, healthy choices, and emotions.

SMALL GROUP COUNSELING:
A few topics that may be discussed in small group counseling sessions would be:
Bullying, Divorce, Grief, Anxiety, etc. 
 
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING:
Provide support during a personal crisis.
Work with students on attendance issues.
Coordinate referrals to outside agencies.
