Dana Friel

My Education: I graduated from Childress High School in 1999, and then went to Texas Tech University where I received a Bachelors degree of Business Administration in Marketing, May 2002. That July I decided I wanted to teach so I enrolled in the Post Bach program at WTAMU where I received my Business Composite teaching certification in 2003. In May 2009 I received my Masters of Education in Administration from WTAMU and completed my principal certification that summer. I re-entered WTAMU to finish out my Superintendent certification in 2015 and completed it in October 2016. I plan on pursuing a doctorate of education in the next few years.

My Teaching: I began teaching in 2003 at Littlefield High School, where I taught Programming, Cisco Networking, and Desktop Publishing. I was there for two years before I moved to Amarillo and began teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry at Dumas High School. While I was there I married Kris Friel. I did enjoy it (teaching math) but I wanted to get back to teaching technology, so that summer I was offered a position teaching Networking and BCIS at Hereford High School and I took it. I taught there for four years and then was offered the Instructional Technology Coach position at Hereford ISD. I was in that position for two years. In 2012 Tulia ISD offered the Director of Instructional Design position and stayed in that position for two years before deciding that I wanted to be back in Hereford, so here I am. I'm now the Instructional Technology Coordinator for Hereford ISD. This is my 2nd year as Assistant Principal at West Central Elementary and I love it! I'm starting my 17th year in education and it just seems like yesterday when I started. This is truly what I LOVE!

Personal Life: I am married to Kris Friel and we have been married for 13 years now. We have one son, his name is Alex, and he is 9 and a daughter, her name is Evan, and she is 4. We have two dogs, Claude and Smokey. I'm very proud of my little family.
